This is a fedora core 3 based Livecd with KDE 3.3.1, Gnome 2.8, OpenOffice, Fire- and Thunderbird and a lot of other tools.

It contains language profiles (currently for kde only) wich are identical with the usernames:

As usual, the password for all users, including root is 'livecd".

- Kde 3.3.1 : User Sessions are
auto-saved to / -restored from usb storage (/dev/sda1).
- Fancier menues in KDE

Requirements

Please see Requirements page.

Limitations

It will not work from a scsi - cdrom device.

Starting the cd

1. Adjust your bios to boot first from cdrom
2. Insert the cd in any of the cdrom devices.
3. At the bootprompt, just hit enter.

- the cd will figure out the right cd drive, load the livecd image and start it.
- In the 'blue' stage, the system will setup the environment and try to configure all hardware.
- in the 'black' stage, the system will run a 'normal' redhat/fedora init

4. The system is successfully started when the login prompt appears.
If no configuration could be loaded from usb, the system will be in 'setup' mode.

5. The system will start the X - server autoconfiguration and try to setup a 1024x768 screen.
It will try a ''safe-mode'  if the monitor is not ddc - capable.

6. Once this is done, the GDM loginmanager is started.

7. The system will try to configure eth0 using dhcp, but only once - if it doesn`t get a response from a dhcp server, eth0 will be left unconfigured.

Saving and restoring configurations

KDE ONLY ! : Auto saving / restoring user profiles :

At login:
Just after a successfull login, the cd will check for an usbstorage at /dev/sda1.
If it detects one, it will search for a  "username".tar.gz which will be extracted to the users
home directory if found. The usbstorage is then umounted.
Then the kde session is started.

At logout:
As soon the current kde session is stopped and saved, the cd will again check
for an usbstorage at /dev/sda1, and create a "username".tar.gz on the usbstorage which contains
the whole user directory including the kde sessions.

This ensures that not only files and user configurations are restored, but also open windows, applications etc.

Manual saving / restoring :
Save complete configuration to usb storage in first usb port:
loadconfig savedir usb /livecd

Load complete configuration from usb storage in first usb port:
loadconfig loadusbarchive livecd.tar.gz

Security Tools

The cd comes with a bunch of security tools of which some are commandline only.

Nessus: Client & Server
The nessus client can be used to connect to either to a nessus server already running elsewhere or to connect to the one included in the cd.

To start the nessus server, open a terminal and run : sudo /etc/init.d/nessusd start
Please look at the /etc/nessus directory and the man pages for details.

The nessus ssl server certificate is already set up.

Snort  - Intrusion detection tool
To start snort in foreground, open a terminal an run: sudo /usr/sbin/snort
To start the snort server, open a terminal and run : sudo /etc/init.d/nessusd start
Please look at the /etc/snort directory and the man pages for details.

Airsnort - Wireless network key recovery tool
Note: the orinoco driver included in the cd is NOT patched (see Fedora-Kismet Howto).
But since it`s a 'stock' fedora kernel, you should be able to load a patched driver without problems. (`nuff said :)

Ethereal - Traffic analyzer
.

Nmap - Portscanner
.

Nagios - Network Monitor
To start the nagios server, open a terminal and run : sudo /etc/init.d/nagios start
The nagios configuration is the one included in the nagios rpm and will be completely
useless :).
Please look at the /etc/nagios directory and /usr/share/nagios for documentation.
